James Comer Offers Guidance to Trump on Managing Pardons Related to Epstein

Comer Discourages Trump from Pardoning Maxwell

James Comer, Chairman of the House Oversight Committee, expressed strong disapproval on Tuesday regarding any potential pardon for Ghislaine Maxwell from President Donald Trump.

The Supreme Court recently denied Maxwell’s appeal to challenge her sex trafficking conviction, dismissing her claim that a previous non-prosecution agreement with Jeffrey Epstein could shield her from legal action. During an appearance on “The Lead with Jake Tapper,” Comer emphasized that granting a pardon would be a serious error.

“In my view, he shouldn’t consider it. I’ve been quite clear about this. The information I’ve reviewed, including thousands of pages from the Justice Department as well as documents we obtained through subpoena, really highlight my concerns,” Comer noted. “Moreover, my discussions with some of Epstein and Maxwell’s victims have led me to firmly discourage any form of pardon or sentence reduction for Maxwell.”

CNN’s Caitlan Collins asked Trump directly if he might consider pardoning Maxwell. He replied, “Honestly, I haven’t come across that name in a while. I need to investigate this further. I wasn’t aware it was denied, nor that she even requested it.”

Maxwell, currently serving a 20-year sentence for trafficking underage girls, was moved to a minimum-security prison in Bryan, Texas, this past August, soon after she was questioned by senior officials from the Justice Department regarding the Epstein case.
