Jon Stewart Mocks Liberal Outrage Machine, Defends Trump Rally Comedian

This isn’t the first time liberal comedian Jon Stewart has stood up for comedy and free speech.

At Mr. Trump’s rally at Madison Square Garden on Sunday night, comedian Tony Hinchcliffe cracked some spicy jokes, including one about Puerto Rico being a “floating island of trash.” included, sending the liberal anger machine into a tailspin. Daniel Alvarez, a senior adviser to the Trump campaign, later said: said The joke “does not reflect the views” of President Trump or his campaign. However, The Daily Show host Jon Stewart defended the set, saying he thought Hinchliffe was “very funny”.

“Obviously, in retrospect, having a roast comedian come to a political rally a week before Election Day and roast a key voting base was probably not the best decision for the campaign politically,” Stewart said. He said that a spade is a spade. “But to be fair, this guy is really just doing what he’s supposed to do.”

The host played a montage of jokes Hinchcliffe told during Tom Brady’s Netflix roast, which made us laugh. (Click here to sign up for Mr. Wright’s weekly newsletter)

While Hinchcliffe nearly bombed during his set at MSG, where his jokes about Israel and Palestine and carving watermelons with his black friends for Halloween drew roars from the crowd, Stewart was completely blown away by the media’s overload. It would be wise to pay more attention to reactions.

As far as political strategy is concerned, bringing comedians to a rally is foolish. Because it does not change the situation at all and can only cause harm. But there is a whiff of desperation as the cable news pundits at CNN and MSNBC have turned into ignorant, panicked bots over a few bad jokes. Are they still trotting out the “Trump is a racist” attack line eight years later?

My guess is that the average American wouldn’t care much, even if they were Puerto Rican. And even if they cared, they’d probably already vote for Kamala.
