U.S. Department of Justice officials promised to meet with Democratic officials in Tarrant County to discuss the letter they sent. Request a voting investigation.
In May, the Democrats, led by Fort Worth Rep. Mark Vichy, wrote a letter calling for an investigation into whether the actions of Republican leaders, including Judge Tim O’Hare, violated the rights of minority voters.
Six Democrats who signed the letter, including Commissioners Alisa Simmons and Commissioner Roy Charles Brooks, said: Election Commissioner Haider Garcia recently resigned and the Establishment of Election Fairness Committee.
“U.S. Department of Justice officials will meet with me, Secretary Roy Brooks and other Tarrant County leaders to directly address serious concerns about voter suppression in Tarrant expressed in a letter to the Department of Justice. We are pleased that you have promised that the Department of Justice will do so last month,” Vichy said in an emailed statement early Tuesday.
At the time, Mr. O’Hare called the letter “baseless” and “pathetic.”
A date for the meeting has not yet been set.
A Justice Department representative did not immediately respond to a request for comment. A representative for O’Hare did not respond to emails and phone calls seeking comment.
