Harris Discusses Biden’s Withdrawal Plans in New Book
A close advisor to former Vice President Kamala Harris created a plan known as the “Red File” about a year ago, outlining the transition strategy for President Joe Biden’s exit from the 2024 election. This information comes from Harris’s recently published book, “107 Days.”
In the book, Harris reveals that her brother-in-law, Tony West, who served as deputy attorney general during the Obama administration, crafted an initial plan for the first 24 to 48 hours in the event Biden’s situation changed. Harris recalls, “He suggested that if something were to happen, it would feel like a betrayal on my part.” She describes the pressure of preparing to reach out to world leaders and political colleagues.
The failed 2024 candidate mentioned that following Biden’s poor debate performance in late June 2024, West began to revise the “Red Files” as Biden eventually withdrew from the race in July.
Reflecting on the June 27 debate, Harris highlighted that she found former President Donald Trump’s approach “unbearable to the truth,” remarking that he wields his words like weapons. She noted Biden’s attempts to communicate accurately often resulted in him being hesitant and unclear, even though he knew his policy points well.
Harris recalled the anxious wait for Biden to call about the announcement of his withdrawal. “As time passed, the news began to leak,” she said, indicating that they never hesitated to confirm his exit from the race.
