“President Trump is not failing American children. He saves our great education secretary, Linda McMahon, today and later, as he dismantles this federal bureaucracy that has accounted for over $3 trillion from American taxpayers since its founding in 1979,” replied Leavitt. “And what have we done as a result of our investment in children’s education? Decrease in our reading, writing and mathematics test scores. Proficiency levels at record declines in fourth and fourth graders at all levels in all states in this country.”
“That’s why this president is bringing education back to people to our students and those closest to our classrooms, and that’s the perfect teacher, educator and parent for our kids, and we’re excited for this event here in the second half of the afternoon at the White House.
Student test scores remain below pre-pandemic levels nationwide, according to 2024 data from the national report card. As student scores continued to plummet, the National Teachers Union frequently promoted leftist causes such as critical racial theories, gun control and gender ideology.
“I’ll add one more point,” Leavitt told Faulkner. “The Ministry of Education has never educated a child. All they have done so far is that it hurts his education and that the president has done something about it and is grateful to the president of God, so he has his money stolen from the taxpayers.”
The Department of Education has spent more than $100 million on diversity, equity and inclusive efforts using grants aimed at promoting mental health. Twenty states, including Washington, DC, California and New York, sued to prevent previous layoffs in the department on March 13th.
