Following a recent win for Alabama, the Trump administration declared that space command headquarters would permanently return to its original location, and U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) received commendations for her support of the state.
“This is significant for the community and small businesses, for Huntsville,” Britt remarked regarding the decision. “This entire process has exposed the downfalls in Washington, D.C., while showing that Huntsville believes in showcasing the best aspects of America.”
While Alabama lawmakers celebrated the news, officials in Colorado, home to the current space command, faced backlash. Trump has publicly criticized them, and the state’s attorney general has even hinted at legal action to prevent the relocation.
“My perspective on Colorado is akin to a bad football call that gets reviewed and overturned,” Britt said. “Trump wasn’t satisfied with the original decision, and as it turns out, Alabama was the winner.”
Britt also criticized the Biden administration’s 2023 choice to name a significant number of government sites in Colorado Springs, expressing doubt about whether President Biden was fully informed of the implications.
“The Kew Joe Biden administration is moving in…and the Air Force secretary confirmed, ‘Yes, Alabama—Redstone Arsenal—is the right place for it.’ However, President Biden injected politics into the situation,” Britt suggested.
“This is the contract. So, do you really believe President Biden made that call?”
Looking past previous grievances, the senator expressed hope about the future of Space Command in Huntsville, stating, “Ultimately, this is about national security and supporting our war fighters, which is a tremendous advantage for our country. It’s a big day for Alabama. This is incredibly important for us.”
