California House Republican Speaker Kevin McCarthy questioned whether former President Donald Trump is the front-runner for president in 2024 on Tuesday on CNBC.
“Can he win the election? Yes, he can. The question is, will he be the strongest to win the election? I don’t know the answer,” McCarthy said. Said CNBC “Squawk Box” on Tuesday. (Related: Report: McCarthy says he’s on board to undo Trump’s two impeachments)
McCarthy has not yet endorsed the Republican nominee, but he remained an ally of the former president even after the indictment, and once sought his advice during debt ceiling negotiations. McCarthy argued that Trump could beat President Joe Biden in the general election.
“Can Trump beat Biden?” Yes, he can beat Biden,” McCarthy said. “Republicans can pick their candidates. If you want to go from sheer policy to policy, I don’t think [just] It’s good for the Republican Party and good for America.Trump’s policies are better [more] Simpler than Biden’s policy. “
