Wildfire Go-Kit:
Residents in areas prone to wildfires should maintain emergency supply kits for quick evacuations, especially as fire activity increases across Arizona.
It’s best if these emergency kits are prepared well in advance of any wildfires or disasters. Easy access is crucial when it’s time to evacuate.
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) suggests that residents store emergency supplies in plastic tubs, small luggage, or other convenient containers.
Key items to include are three gallons of water per person and a three-day supply of non-perishable food. First aid kits, prescription medications, contact lenses, and non-prescription drugs should also be factored in.
Make sure to copy essential documents, such as insurance papers, identification, bank accounts, and emergency contact numbers, keeping them in a waterproof container within the kit.
The association outlines additional helpful items for disasters:
- Each person’s sleeping bag or warm blanket.
- Battery-powered or manual radio and NOAA Weather Radio for updates.
- Air filtering dust mask or cotton t-shirt.
- Matches in a waterproof container.
- Complete change of clothing, including long pants, long sleeve shirts, and sturdy shoes stored in waterproof containers.
- Signal flare.
