Trump Warns About Mayoral Candidate Mamdani
Lara Trump, President Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law and a Fox News host, raised concerns about mayoral candidate Mamdani during a segment on Wednesday.
In a discussion focusing on Mamdani’s previous political remarks from 2020, he sidestepped a question from a reporter about whether he regrets those statements. Sean Hannity, during the segment, questioned Lara Trump on how voters in New York City should react.
“It’s quite something, Sean,” she remarked. “Suddenly, in an election year, he’s had a change of heart. This is exactly how standard Democrats operate. They think, ‘I’m about to be elected; let me say something appealing.'” She continued, “We’ve all heard him say ‘Refund the police’ repeatedly. I think it’s something we should probably pay less attention to now.”
Lara Trump noted that hiring levels in the NYPD have significantly declined, adding that budget cuts over recent years were driven in part by the arrival of illegal immigrants in New York City. “What they really need are people who believe in them,” she asserted.
Following George Floyd’s death in May 2020, Mamdani reiterated calls to defund the NYPD, labeling it as “racist” and a major public safety threat.
In the wake of a recent mass shooting in Manhattan that resulted in the deaths of four individuals, including NYPD officers, Mamdani described his past comments as stemming from frustration.
“Despite the increased dangers in many cities, conversations with ICE agents reveal their morale is actually quite high,” Trump mentioned. “They feel supported by President Donald Trump. Speak to law enforcement officers, and you’ll see how important that is.”
She expressed worries about crime increasing if Mamdani were to become mayor. “I won’t be living in New York City anymore,” she declared. “The NYPD knows exactly who this guy is. Don’t trust him, especially not at the last minute.”
After securing the Democratic nomination for mayor of the largest city in the U.S., Mamdani faced criticism from both Republicans and Democrats for his socialist views.
