Larry Wilmore Tells Rep. Byron Donalds Black Republicans Are A Bit Like ‘Raisins’ In ‘Potato Salad’

While discussing diversity with Republican Rep. Byron Donald of Florida at the Republican National Convention, comedian Larry Wilmore likened the increase in black Republicans to “raisins” in “potato salad.”

“The party has come a long way and we will continue to go further. Look, there was Amber Rose, I told you about her earlier. There was also Mrs. Rose, the mother of a fallen soldier. [Madeline] “Blaim from New York City, myself, Wesley Hunt, John James, Nikki Haley, Vivek Ramaswami,” Donald told Maher. “I mean, the list goes on and on. I remember the Republican Convention eight years ago, 12 years ago, and there might have been one or two black people on stage.”

“Our party is growing and diversifying. When you're on the convention floor, like I was for five days straight, nobody says, 'Oh, that's a black guy! Let me take a picture with him,' it's like, 'Oh, that's Byron! I love him!' White, black, Hispanic, it doesn't matter,” Donald said.

“I'll say this,” Wilmore interjected, “adding more raisins to potato salad doesn't make the potato salad any better.”

Wilmore then turned the conversation to abortion.

Wilmore famously uttered the N-word while speaking to then-President Barack Obama at the 2016 White House Correspondents' Dinner.
