‘Leading Candidate’: Harry Enten Hints at Which Trump May Excel in NC Senate GOP Primary

Lara Trump Considering North Carolina Senate Run

On Monday, CNN senior data reporter Harry Enten shared some insights on “Anderson Cooper 360.” He noted that Lara Trump, President Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law, is looking to lead the North Carolina GOP Senate.

Republican Senator Tom Tillis from North Carolina announced on Sunday that he will not seek reelection, especially after Trump indicated support for a primary challenger if Tillis voted against his significant legislative agenda. While discussing possible contenders for the 2026 race, Enten mentioned that Lara Trump has 48% support in the GOP primary based on the betting market.

“Currently, she’s a frontrunner, with a strong chance of being the GOP candidate in North Carolina,” Enten stated. “But, winning the nomination is just the beginning. The general election will present different challenges, especially with potential Democratic candidates like former Governor Roy Cooper, who had a favorable approval rating in North Carolina.”

In March 2024, Lara Trump took on the role of co-chair for the Republican National Committee as part of President Trump’s campaign for 2024. She later announced her resignation in December after the RNC president received another term.

Initially, there was speculation that she might replace Secretary of State Marco Rubio. However, she confirmed she wouldn’t run but remained open to future public service opportunities.

In February, Fox News revealed that Lara Trump would take Brian Kilmeade’s Saturday slot, further increasing her visibility.

Alongside Lara Trump, other potential GOP contenders to fill Tillis’s seat might include RNC president Michael Whatley and Representatives Greg Murphy, Tim Moore, and Brad Knott.

Lara Trump has not yet commented on her potential candidacy.
