“Everybody has a different strike zone,” Yandle said at the webinar, recalling a question during the approval process about whether senators would legislate from the bench or declare “ball and strike.”
“We’re all about calling balls and strikes,” she said. “I’m going to call from the strike zone.
Yandle said black and gay judges should be “true selves” when speaking from the bench.

One reason he thinks lay judge diversity is important is the “opportunities” that district judges can create, such as hiring legal clerks and appointing trustees.
Walker, who was certified in March, said the certification process was “invasive.”
