According to NPR, the left-wing nongovernmental organization Common Defense is preparing a coalition of “rapid response forces” to respond to potential escalation at polling places.
Ahead of the election, Common Defense, a group of 40,000 military veterans, is mobilizing its network to help “monitor extremist activity in battleground states before and after the election.” According to Go to NPR. After instructing members of “Open Source Intelligence” to help predict unrest around polling places, individuals were told by the organization to respond to escalation by filming videos for “accountability.” The newspaper reported that this was ordered. “We do de-escalation training for a lot of people,” Common Defense co-founder Perry O’Brien told NPR. “We are training people how to monitor and capture video for accountability.”
As a “crisis” unfolds, “quick reaction forces” will appear at polling stations “unarmed and in plain clothes,” the newspaper reported.
Common Defense teaches its members to review publicly accessible information often found on social media to look for potential threats in battleground states, O’Brien told NPR.
“Obviously that’s an area where we expect a lot of these threats to come from,” he added.

A majority of registered voters, 76%, are concerned about “violence aimed at overturning the election results.” According to According to an AP-NORC poll released Monday. The Daily Caller spoke to various experts in the political field about what to expect if President Trump wins. They predicted more extreme and dangerous Democratic responses in 2024 compared to 2016, from protests to legal action to Secret Service protection.

“I don’t think the public was ready for it in 2016. That’s why we didn’t see widespread unrest, because no one expected it to happen. It wasn’t there,” says Richie McGinnis, a longtime video journalist who has covered social issues. He told the caller it was an anxiety that had been going on for years. McGinnis previously served as video director for the Daily Caller.
“I hate to say it, but it’s going to get much worse.” [in 2024] If Trump wins, he will win even more than he did in 2016,” he added, referring to the “anti-Trumpism” the country has been steeped in in recent years.
