June will be a busy month for libraries as both physical and digital facilities are being revamped.
The Coconino County Public Library of Flagstaff is rolling out a series of new changes to make it easier than ever to access resources and services. June will be a busy month for libraries as both physical and digital facilities are being revamped. We are also pleased to introduce our new Librarian, Linda Tilson.
Linda joined the Coconino County Public Library District in Flagstaff in February after serving as District Director of the Eagle Valley Library in Colorado for the past 10 years. She brings a wealth of curatorial experience to Flagstaff and Coconino County, and we are very excited to see her lead the library in the future. Raised in Keems Canyon on the Hopi Reservation, Linda has a deep love for the mountains and northern Arizona, and we know it translates into great public service to our community.
In addition, construction of the much-anticipated Downtown Library main entrance plaza is entering its final stages. The renovation, originally scheduled to be completed by the end of 2022, includes a new architecture that will bring the library into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards. In addition to gently sloping sidewalks, a well-organized parking lot and major public art works, the renovation aims to introduce a brand new plaza area where library patrons can enjoy reading in an outdoor setting. The plaza will also be used by library staff to offer new and innovative program initiatives to the public.
In addition to changing physical access to the library, the library will also work on digital access to library materials and services. Flagstaff’s Coconino County Public Library will soon begin a website redesign in partnership with Proof Studios to develop a sleek new modern website that brings a much-needed refresh to the library’s digital storefront will be As libraries move to more robust and professional website services, it is hoped that online resources, databases, access to events and programs will all become mobile friendly and easier to navigate.
All of these changes should either be applied or are in the process of being implemented as the library prepares to host the 2023 Summer Reading Challenge event. Please take a look at the new styles while enjoying the summer event.
