Antony Blinken Asked to Leave Beach Due to Hurricane Conditions
Former Secretary of State Antony Blinken was asked to vacate Georgeka Beach in East Hampton, New York, on Friday by a lifeguard, following warnings of hurricane conditions. This incident came to light through reports from the New York Post.
In photos from the scene, Blinken was seen alongside friends being escorted off the beach by a lifeguard and a parked patrol vehicle. They were all observed packing up their belongings as they prepared to leave.
The beach reopened the next day, on Saturday, after being closed for several days due to the dangerous conditions brought about by Hurricane Erin. This storm was significant enough to prompt closures at various beaches throughout the East Hampton area.
According to a spokesperson for the East Hampton Village Main Beach office, the beach opened for walking traffic at noon on Friday after the tide subsided. Captured images showed large waves crashing behind Blinken and his companions as they left the beach.
Hurricane Erin marked the first Atlantic storm of 2025, reaching a Category 5 status with sustained winds of 160 mph by August 16. The storm produced waves between 15 to 20 feet along the East Coast.
Blinken has faced public scrutiny for his leisure activities in the past. For instance, back in 2021, he took a vacation in the Hamptons just hours before the Taliban seized control of Kabul. Similarly, during a tumultuous time in May 2024, he was spotted playing guitar at a bar in Kyiv as the conflict with Russia escalated.
