“Mabel, Crook, Colo'' Amber Mekelberg-Hertz's photo is one of the photos that will be on display at the Yuma Orphanage during March.

The Crook, Colorado, native will be the first artist to exhibit at the Yuma orphanage this year.

Amber Mekelburg-Herz's photography exhibition “Still Stories” will be on view at the museum and gallery from March 2nd to April 7th.

Amber graduated from Fleming High School and Northeastern Junior College. She grew up surrounded by her outdoors, fishing, camping, and spending time with her family. Amber has always been interested in documenting the outdoors as more than just memory.

Amber said that she has been taking pictures of everything ever since she could remember, and has always experimented with taking pictures that match her imagination. About four years ago, she got her first digital SLR camera. When her family started a small herd, Amber would travel to the local reservoir every day and spend all her time photographing candid moments in the meadows and water.

Amber has no formal training, but with the help of YouTube and a kind neighbor, she was able to teach herself photography. Although this is still just a hobby, Still Stories Art Co. was born because so many others seem to enjoy her photography as much as Amber does.

“Each photo has a story, static yet as vivid as a movie,” she said.

Amber enjoys taking and sharing photos, which can be seen at Still Stories Art Co. on Facebook and Instagram.

An artist reception will be held at the orphanage on Saturday, March 2nd from 1pm to 5pm, featuring food, drinks, and live music. The orphanage is located at 300 South Main Street in downtown Yuma.
