Los Angeles Dodgers claim historic 8th World Series title, and Yuma County fans are ecstatic

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) – In a thrilling finale, the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the New York Yankees 7-6 in Game 5 to win the World Series championship for the eighth time in franchise history.

Local Dodgers supporters like Adrian Alvarado find this win especially meaningful. Comparing this victory to his 2020 World Series victory, he said, “I feel like this championship is more fulfilling. I’m not trying to discredit the opponent, but this championship… Ship is much more fulfilling,” he said.

Fans like Joel Beltran say he believes what truly sets this year’s Dodgers apart is their unique team chemistry, which gave them an edge over the star-studded Yankees. “The spotlight is too focused on a few guys compared to the Dodgers,” Beltran said. “We have a lot of great guys on our roster. They’re great guys. They work well together. Nobody takes the spotlight on themselves.”

For the Castillo family of Somerton, a Dodgers win means more than just a championship. It is a continuation of a family legacy that spans generations.

Juan Castillo explains, “Baseball in our family is more than just a game; it’s truly a family tradition, passed down through generations.”

Castillo’s Dodgers fandom began with his grandmother, a former Yankees fan who switched allegiances during “Fernandomania,” when the signing of Fernando Valenzuela caused widespread excitement among Mexican-American fans.

“My grandmother was a huge Yankee fan, but when Fernando Valenzuela signed with the Dodgers, she automatically became a Dodgers fan,” Castillo recalled. “And I thank God every day for that decision, because if I hadn’t, I would have been a Yankee fan.”

Castillo proudly shares her Dodger passion with her children and grandchildren, keeping her grandmother’s legacy alive. “She passed that passion from my grandmother to my father, from my father to me, and now I’m passing it on to my children.” Her son is also passing it on to his grandchildren. It’s just a family thing. ”

As the Dodgers celebrate this latest victory, fans are already looking forward, confident that next season will be just as special with multiple star players under contract.
