The deadline for local elections in Alabama has closed, and in Madison, four candidates for city council are running unopposed.
In District 1, incumbent Maura Wroblewski is the only candidate qualifying for the position. District 2 will see newcomer David Beer running unopposed. Similarly, in District 3, Alice Lessman holds the same situation.
There is also a related note about Jeanne Lisardi campaigning for District Judge, Place 5 in Madison County.
The Alabama Secretary of State’s office has indicated that election certificates will be provided to qualified candidates without opposition.
According to their statement, “At the first regular meeting after receiving the Mayor or other Chief Executive’s statement, the municipal governing body shall adopt a resolution declaring the individual designated in the officially elected statement to the office mentioned in the statement and issue a certificate of election for the individual.”
The next Madison city council meeting is scheduled for July 14th.
As for the other city council districts and the mayoral race, there are at least two eligible candidates for the election set for August 26th.
In District 4, City Councilman Greg Shaw will not be running for reelection, leaving Michael McKay and Rachel Homorak eligible.
District 6 will have current council member Calendenzin facing Scott Harbor and Erica White.
In District 7, city council president John Seyfert is up against Kenneth Jackson.
Additionally, the mayoral race in Madison will feature three candidates: City Council Members Ranae Bartlett, city manager Steve Smith, and Margie Dary.
Mayor Paul Finley announced last October that he would not be seeking reelection.
Secretary of State Wes Allen emphasized the importance of participating in local elections, stating, “The rights of American citizens who are eligible to vote in fair and secure elections are one of the characteristics of our constitutional republic. I encourage all eligible Alabamians to exercise it on August 26th.”
