TUCSON, Ariz. — A man was shot and killed after approaching authorities with a sword late Saturday night. The man later died, authorities said.
Pima County Sheriff's Deputy On February 24, around 10 p.m., officers responded to a report of a suspicious person from a hotel near Palo Verde Boulevard. A 911 caller reported a man screaming and brandishing a sword outside a hotel room. When officers arrived on scene, they found the subject in possession of a sword.
Deputies attempted to speak with the man, but the man pulled his sword from its scabbard and approached them. One of his aides fired a handgun, hitting the man. Police said the man died at the scene.
No deputies or other area residents were injured in the incident.
Tucson police are the lead investigating agency in the shooting, and the Pima County Sheriff's Office will conduct a separate investigation to determine if any policy violations occurred.
