Authorities in Arizona launched a manhunt Thursday after they believe a sex offender who has threatened to kill former President Donald Trump is on the run near where Trump was giving a speech about border policy.
The Cochise County Sheriff's Office issued a press statement asking for the public's help in locating Ronald Lee Silvud, 66, who is believed to be in Sierra Vista, Arizona, where President Trump is scheduled to speak at the border. Authorities described Silvud as 6 feet tall, weighing 220 pounds, having outstanding warrants for his arrest, and not being a registered sex offender. “The suspect has outstanding warrants out of Wisconsin for DUI/Failure to Appear DWI and out of Graham County, Arizona for Hit and Run and Felony Failure to Register as a Sex Offender,” authorities said on Facebook. post.
“Syverud is being pursued as the lead investigator into the death threats against the presidential candidate,” the agency continued.
The Cochise County Sheriff's Office told the Daily Caller News Foundation that they were “aware of an individual named Ronald Sivrud making threatening statements about candidate Trump via social media,” which led to Sivrud's identity being made public.
“We are working closely with all of our local, state and federal partners to locate this individual connected to the outstanding warrant and threat investigation,” Public Information Officer Carol Capas told DCNF. “We continue to search for this suspect.”
Despite the investigation, Trump spoke in the border town on Thursday afternoon, criticizing the Biden administration's border policies. The Secret Service later revealed that they would be using bulletproof glass at the outdoor rally to protect the former president from any threats while he was on stage.
The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to the DCNF's request for comment.
