Marco Rubio Dismantles Margaret Brennan’s ‘Foolish Media Story’ About Trump Aiming To ‘Intimidate’ Zelenskyy

Rubio Dismisses Concerns About Zelensky Being Bullied

Secretary of State Marco Rubio has responded to CBS News host Margaret Brennan’s assertion that European leaders are apprehensive about President Donald Trump potentially pressuring Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

During “Face the Nation,” Brennan mentioned that European leaders planned to attend a White House meeting on Monday, expressing worries that Zelensky might face coercion regarding unfavorable agreements for Ukraine. Rubio countered these claims, suggesting that the U.S. has been actively collaborating with European allies to discuss peace efforts between Russia and Ukraine.

“We know there are concerns that President Zelensky might be pressured into signing something. So, can European leaders feel supported during tomorrow’s meeting?” Brennan asked.

“No, that’s not true,” Rubio replied. “They aren’t here to prevent Zelensky from being pressured. There have been many meetings since then.”

Rubio characterized Brennan’s remarks about “bullying” as a “stupid media story,” asserting that the Trump administration had extended invitations to European leaders to participate in discussions.

He noted that they have held numerous meetings with Zelensky and closely coordinated with European allies, prompting Trump to make such calls on Thursday.

“This is a ridiculous media narrative. European leaders are here as Trump addresses concerns about Zelensky. We’ve been working with them for weeks on these issues,” Rubio continued. “We invited them here. The president invited them.”

He emphasized that there has been “sufficient progress” made during the recent Alaska Summit, indicating ongoing discussions with Zelensky and other global leaders.

Brennan criticized the optics of the Alaska Summit, suggesting that Putin received unwarranted praise during an event that included a red-carpet welcome. Critics allege that Trump’s actions lent support to Putin while creating friction with Ukraine.

In light of the backlash regarding the red-carpet treatment, Rubio noted in an appearance on ABC News’ “This Week” that engaging with Putin was crucial for peace negotiations, asserting that Trump approached the meeting earnestly.
