Maricopa County, Arizona, sheriff frustrated over having to ‘babysit’ polling sites

(NewsNation) — The Maricopa County, Arizona sheriff urges everyone to moderate their rhetoric and behavior after ballot drop-box security was increased due to an incident that could intimidate voters. I am calling.

In one case, a video was seen of an armed and masked “vigilante” sitting on a lawn chair in the parking lot of a building with a drop-box and talking to voters as they cast their ballots. The Secretary of State has referred multiple instances of potential intimidation to law enforcement.


Maricopa County Sheriff Paul Penzone said he was frustrated with the extra manpower and resources expending to monitor these polling places, and called it a “babysitter.”

“I don’t know how else to define it,” Penzone said on NewsNation’s “Rush Hour” on Tuesday. “As Americans, the idea that we are divided and fighting each other instead of protecting something so fragile and pure about democracy within our republic is disconcerting.”
