With the election less than three weeks away, Maricopa County officials are working to ensure people with disabilities can vote on Election Day if they choose.
Jennifer Liewer is the deputy elections director for Maricopa County Elections. She says she partners with disability organizations like Ability 360 to do outreach work within the community.
“But for those who want an in-person voting experience, we want to make sure they can do that regardless of their ability,” Liewer said.
So when voters come to a voting center, they can request someone to come to their car and help them with the voting process. There are also accessible voting devices and a special election commission made up of Republicans and Democrats.
“They go out and visit people who maybe can’t leave their nursing homes or who are hospitalized but need help voting,” Liewer said.
Liewer said voters can also bring someone with them to help them with the voting process.
