PHOENIX — The Trump administration has begun the process of illegally deporting people in the country, with the promise that the number of deportees could reach into the millions.

Maricopa County Sheriff Jerry Sheridan said he expects some deportees will stop at the jail on their way out of the country.

12News toured the facility and learned about the process deportees may face.

Individuals being deported, like others brought to prison, will be screened and scanned for contraband, possibly undergo an initial medical examination, and then taken to another area of ​​the prison. It turns out. Sheridan explained that it only targets deportees.

The sheriff said there are currently more than 2,000 beds available, but federal assistance will be needed in terms of staffing at the jail to accommodate the additional inmates.
