Maricopa County Marks the Grand Opening of a 368-Unit Affordable Housing Community in Glendale

Affordable Housing Community Opens in Glendale

GLENDALE, Ariz. (March 7, 2025) – Maricopa County recently inaugurated Centerline on Glendale, a forward-thinking affordable housing community featuring 368 units. This facility, located just west of downtown Glendale, aims to support Local First Arizona by launching the Glendale Community Kitchen.

District 5 Supervisor Steve Gallardo emphasized the need for such projects, noting, “Too many West Valley families are struggling to make ends meet and are having to make difficult decisions to afford rent and stock refrigerators. This project proves that affordable housing developments are about more than just providing housing; they are building strong communities where families have access to the amenities they need and can work together to build a foundation for prosperity.”

Centerline is seen as a template for fostering community-oriented economic development. The new Community Kitchen will feature a commercial kitchen intended for local entrepreneurs operating small food businesses in the West Valley. Additionally, the complex will include a splash pad, a dog park, space for business incubation, a fitness center, and 13 acres of walking trails, along with electric vehicle charging stations and comprehensive support services.

This initiative aims to deliver quality, affordable living to a diverse population, including individuals, families, seniors, veterans, previously homeless individuals, and those with special needs. The units are designed to be accessible and tailored for residents with physical or sensory disabilities. Rent for the one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments ranges between $476 and $2,054, accommodating households with incomes from 0% to 80% of the county’s Area Median Income (AMI).

To support the development of Centerline, Maricopa County has allocated $6 million from the Affordable Relief Projects Act (ARPA). Notably, this project marks the first affordable housing community in Arizona financed through the state’s Low Income Housing Tax Credit. It’s a collaborative effort involving the County, the City of Glendale, the Arizona Housing Authority, and various state agencies.
