Maricopa County offers free immunizations, screenings at Wellness Expo events

Maricopa County Public Health is hosting three events Wellness Expo Event In the coming weeks.

The event will provide guidance on flu and COVID-19 vaccinations, screenings for diabetes and certain cancers, and enrollment in Arizona's Medicaid program, AHCCCS. Participants will also receive training on how to use the overdose-reversing drug Narcan and other types of first aid. Sponsors will also be giving away safety supplies such as first aid kits and children's bike helmets.

“Everything is free. Nobody pays a dime. They get mammograms and other services for free,” said Joanna Molina, Maricopa County's immunization equity manager.

Molina said the annual event, which targets low-income and underinsured communities, typically draws several hundred people.

“We're seeing a lot of families coming in especially because there's something for everyone in the family, like the flu or COVID-19.” [vaccines] Anyone over six months old is eligible,” Molina said.

Walk-ins are welcome for most services, but advance reservations are required for mammograms and prostate cancer screenings. Appointments can be made by calling 844-674-1295 for mammography or 480-964-3013 for prostate cancer screening.

Event will be held:

  • Oct. 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 3130 N. 51st Ave. in Phoenix.
  • Oct. 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 950 W. Eighth Ave. in Mesa.
  • Nov. 16 at 14900 W. Van Buren St. in Goodyear from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
