Maricopa County pollution levels rise along with Saturday, Sunday temperatures

The National Weather Service is forecasting a drier and hotter weekend, and state officials issued high ozone pollution warnings for both Saturday and Sunday.

Temperatures in the Phoenix area are expected to soar to 98 degrees on Sunday and reach 100 degrees on Monday, according to forecasts. It will be sunny during the day and at night. The lowest temperature is expected to be 72 degrees.

Meanwhile, the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality issued a pollution alert, noting that the highest levels of pollution could exceed federal health standards.

“Active children, adults and people with lung diseases such as asthma should reduce prolonged or strenuous physical activity outdoors,” health officials advise.

Also, wood-burning fireplaces, outdoor fire pits, and similar outdoor fires are prohibited in Maricopa County.
