Maricopa County provides grants for housing, food security | News

The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors has approved over $399,000 in Community Services Block Grants (CSBG) to the cities of Avondale, Chandler, Surprise, Tempe, and Tolleson.

Efforts funded through these grants will focus on providing housing and nutritional assistance to income-earning individuals and families within these communities.

Maricopa County Board of Supervisors Chairman Clint Hickman, representing District 4, expressed support for these grants, stating, Through these partnerships, we can expand the impact of these funds and create safer, more stable, and healthier environments for our neighborhoods most in need. ”

Funding awards include:

• City of Avondale: $62,500 for Housing Stability Services.

• City of Chandler: $125,000 for safe and affordable housing.

• City of Surprise: $125,000 for a safe temporary shelter.

• City of Tempe: $62,500 for food/nutrition services.

• City of Tolleson: $24,750 for food/nutrition services.

Funding for these efforts is provided by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and administered by the Maricopa County Department of Human Services. The overarching goal of this funding is to reduce poverty and help low-income families and individuals become self-reliant.
