Maricopa County rejects city plan restore community’s water | News

PHOENIX (AP) — Maricopa County flatly rejected an offer from Scottsdale to temporarily restore water to an unincorporated community near the upscale Phoenix suburb.

AZ Family.com The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors concluded at its Friday afternoon meeting that there were too many issues causing concern, reports the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors.

Supervisor Tom Galvin called the plan to restore water to the Rio Verde foothills “bureaucracy at its worst.”

Tucson (KVOA) – Tucson Water has a one-day hiring event on Saturday.

The City of Scottsdale has issued its own statement condemning the board.

“Today’s actions make it clear that they want to wash the problem and hold Scottsdale accountable to their voters,” the city said. It remains on the table if you want to re-engage with the draft agreement.”

City officials also say the board should have tried to work with them instead of rejecting the proposal outright.

Scottsdale shared water with Rio Verde until the city closed the community on January 1. Scottsdale argued that action must be taken under the drought management plan to ensure adequate water for residents.

Under the new proposal, Rio Verde residents will have temporary access to the city’s water for up to three years. The agreement also relies on the city getting more water resources from third parties. The city will process the water and make it available for distribution throughout the county. The city also receives cost reimbursement from the county.

County supervisors have questioned where Scottsdale gets water, and Rio Verde residents are charging more and limiting how much they can use.

Rio Verde residents went to Maricopa County Superior Court in January to seek an injunction to force Scottsdale to temporarily resume water sharing.

The judge said courts cannot intervene in water policy decisions.
