Maricopa County rewarded for saving animal lives

The Maricopa County Department of Animal Care and Management received a $100,000 grant investment from national nonprofit Petcolab to support animal rescue efforts in Maricopa County.

Petco Love is a national nonprofit focused on change for pets by using the power of love to make communities and pet families closer, stronger and healthier.

Since its founding in 1999, Petco Love has invested $350 million in adoption and other life-saving efforts. Petco Love also partners with Petco and his 4,000+ organizations across North America to help find pet loving homes, with 6.7 million pets adopted and counting.

“Our investment in MCACC is part of the more than $15 million investment recently announced by Petco Lab as part of our commitment to creating a future where pets are not euthanized unnecessarily, and will continue to support local communities across the country. Debbie McKnight, Maricopa County Animal Control Director, said that thanks to Petco Love, we are able to provide resource-poor communities with critically important health care such as spay/neuter, vaccines and microchips through our PetHelp program. MCACC is a municipal shelter committed to providing a vital resource for pet owners in Maricopa County while ensuring positive outcomes for all animals that enter the shelter. Since January 2022, over 23,000 animals have arrived at the MCACC, over 14,000 have been adopted into forever homes, nearly 3,000 have been transferred to dedicated rescue groups, and 3,200 have been returned to their owners. MCACC maintains an average savings rate of 94%.
