The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office announced Thursday that it is targeting multiple persons of interest as “probable suspects” in connection with the death of Ben Anderson on New Year's Eve 2021. Authorities have confirmed plans to prosecute them.
Anderson, 41, was found dead in the desert west of Interstate 17 the same day she was reported missing. His car was found burned and destroyed in a parking lot about 30 miles south.
The sheriff's office said in a statement that it is targeting some potential suspects, but “needs to review digital data and records to gather further information.” The agency said it plans to file charges with the Maricopa County Attorney's Office.

The agency has not said when that will happen.
“MCSO remains committed to ensuring that the best cases are presented to the MCAO,” the statement said.
The sheriff's office also addressed “rumors” that the case was connected to other criminal cases, saying detectives found no obvious connection.
