Halperin Predicts Arrest Strategy at Trump-Putin Summit
On a recent broadcast, journalist Mark Halperin suggested that President Donald Trump’s impending meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin could be a tactic aimed at arresting Putin as a war criminal.
The discussion comes as Trump is set to engage with Putin, who is facing a 2023 arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for allegedly trafficking children from occupied areas of Ukraine to Russia. Halperin, alongside co-hosts Sean Spicer and Dan Turretine, expressed skepticism about the U.S.’s ability to apprehend Putin, although Halperin seemed to disagree.
“This could be pivotal,” Halperin remarked, indicating that he suspects the meeting’s real intent is to trick Putin into traveling to the U.S. where he could be detained, labeling him a war criminal.
The allegations of war crimes purportedly date back to February 24, 2022, the day Russian forces invaded Ukraine. Despite the escalating situation, Trump has maintained a focus on seeking peace between the two nations, committing to end the conflict as part of his 2024 presidential campaign.
Reportedly, Putin has indicated that he would consider ceasing hostilities if Ukraine agrees to relinquish a significant portion of land within its eastern territories. This development was highlighted in a recent edition of the Wall Street Journal.
Trump conveyed to European leaders that the summit is primarily aimed at establishing a ceasefire rather than negotiating land exchanges, although he has floated the idea in the past.
It’s estimated that the war has led to devastating losses on both sides.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump emphasized the significant implications of the meeting, describing it as “High Stakes!!.”
