“This Afghan national who worked for the CIA in Afghanistan was arrested for planning an election day terrorist plot,” Heinrich said. “Your agency states that he was brought to the United States as part of the SIV program after the fall of Afghanistan. The State Department tells us that he was not a participant in the SIV program, which was highly vetted. They claim that he was not issued a SIV visa or an immigrant visa and that DHS paroled him to the United States. They further claim that court documents will be updated to reflect this on the part of the Department of Justice. So, Secretary, how did this guy get brought to the United States? What tests did he undergo to get here? Is it?”

“Jackie, I’m here in North Carolina and I’m in contact with the people who are still working on the search and rescue efforts as more than 200 people lost their lives in Hurricane Helen,” Mayorkas responded. “We have received reports that at least 10 people have lost their lives as a result of Hurricane Milton. We would be happy to answer your question in another setting, but what we are here to talk about is an emergency and a dire situation. Thank you for the support you can provide to those in need.

Tauhedi was allowed to enter the United States on a special immigrant visa in September 2021, shortly after the United States withdrew from Afghanistan. According to on court documents.

“I appreciate that, Secretary, but we’re getting conflicting answers from your agency and the State Department about a man arrested in an election-day terrorist plot. Why don’t we have those answers ready? ” Heinrich asked, and Mayorkas dodged the question again.

“Mr. Secretary, can you assure the public that appropriate measures are being taken to protect the country from this type of threat?” Heinrich continued. “Because the open question is whether this man was radicalized before he was brought here by the U.S. government or whether he was radicalized afterwards, and people should be concerned about that. ” (Related: ‘What are her plans?’: FOX News host verbally battles with Democratic guest over Kamala Harris’ economic policies)
