McCarthy Criticizes Jeffries and Schumer
Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy took aim at House Minority Leader Hakem Jeffries and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer during a recent discussion.
McCarthy’s comments came after Mamdani won the Democratic nomination for Mayor of New York City in the primary held on June 24, beating former Democratic officials and other candidates. In a segment on “American Newsroom,” McCarthy stated that all Schumer and Jeffries offered were “excuses” when questioned about their remarks.
Democratic presidential candidate Buttigieg, in an interview with National Public Radio, commented: “I think Democrats are slow to understand changes in the way people get information, and slow to understand some of the cultural changes that are happening.” He suggested that the party is perhaps too attached to the status quo, which has been ineffective for a long time.
“Every week brings a new excuse. Their real issue is poor policies and the absence of leadership,” McCarthy remarked, further claiming that the Democratic Party is drifting toward socialism as they struggle for leadership roles. He compared their strategy to the approach taken in the ’90s, which targeted Ross Perot voters—akin to Trump’s voter base.
McCarthy also expressed concerns about the lack of decision-making from the current Democratic leadership, stating, “They allow us to go in other directions because our leadership under Schumer and Jeffries is so weak.” He pointed to a socialist candidate running for mayor in New York as indicative of this trend.
In another interview, Mamdani sidestepped condemnation of the phrase “globalization of intifadas” while discussing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, whom he suggested should be arrested if he visits New York City. Additionally, Mamdani has called for increased taxes on predominantly white districts in New York as part of his campaign to challenge Mayor Eric Adams. He is also advocating for a range of leftist policies, including government-run grocery stores.
