McNairy County Gov. Bill Lee investigates the damage from the storm after the bad weather and floods that swept the state overnight on April 2nd, and meets with survivors.
It’s a tornado torn McNairy County West Tennessee caused an estimated $30 million in damage earlier this month, according to the county’s Office of Emergency Management.
An EF-3 tornado with a 43-mile storm truck took the county by storm on early April 3rd, killing five people. The wind speed reached 160 mph.
The storm struck Selmer, the county’s largest city and seat, home to around 4,500 people. The killers include three Selmer residents of New Bethel Road, one McNairy County resident of New Bethel Road and one McNairy County resident of Friendship Road, one McNairy County resident of Friendship Road.
Residents and employers were borne for property damage with a preliminary evaluation of MCNAIRY COUNTY Emergency Management Agency totaling $27.6 million. Reported on Friday.
Floods caused by the storm system also damaged roads throughout the county. The cost of local government response and damage to public property, roads, utilities and government facilities totals around $2.7 million.
Of the 332 structures affected by the storm, 108 were destroyed and 70 major damages were caused, the McNairy County EMA reported on April 5.
A preliminary damage assessment will be sent to FEMA. This is the first step in determining whether McNairy County is eligible for federal assistance in disaster recovery. SMEs also assessed the damages to determine whether the county qualifies for low interest disaster loans.
A disaster declaration is required for the county to receive federal assistance.

Tennessee has received a federal emergency declaration Since April 2ndas violent storms, straight winds, tornadoes and floods denounce Tennessee in the west and central parts of the country.
Under the declaration, FEMA can provide equipment and resources to support emergency response, and direct federal assistance under the public assistance program will be provided with 75% federal funding, according to the agency.
