Melania Trump Announces Passing Of Her Mother

Former first lady Melania Trump announced Tuesday that her mother died from an undisclosed illness.

Melania Trump, who has been largely absent from public life in recent weeks, shared the heartbreaking news on Twitter.

“It is with deep sadness that I announce the death of my beloved mother Amalia,” Melania tweeted. “Amalia Knahus was a strong woman who always conducted herself with grace, warmth and dignity. She was completely devoted to her husband, daughter, grandson and son-in-law. Former President Donald Trump told guests at a New Year's event at Mar-a-Lago that Melania had been avoiding public appearances to be with her hospitalized mother.

“Her mother, Amalia, is seriously ill. But I hope she recovers,” President Trump told the audience. President Trump said his mother-in-law was being treated at a hospital in Miami.

“This is tough, very tough,” Trump added.

Melania Trump was absent from the Trump family's Christmas card, choosing instead to spend time with her mother, Page Six reported, citing a source close to the first lady.
