Four Republican senators, fresh off the imminent impasse of a debt ceiling deal, recently signed into law a bill that would require the Biden administration to consider its feasibility. . . It is a national tax on energy, collected as gas pumps, electricity bills, and heating costs.
Four Republicans – Senator Kramer (R-North Dakota), Senator Cassidy (R-Louisiana), Senator Graham (R-South Carolina), and Senator Markowski (R-Alaska) – He joined five Democrats in Congress to ask questions of Team Biden. Measuring the amount of energy used and carbon dioxide emitted in different countries in producing essentially everything that makes modern life possible (aluminum, iron, steel, plastic, crude oil, batteries, etc.).
Ultimately, that information will be used, in the Biden gang’s view, to impose tariffs on countries that emit too much carbon dioxide in the production of their products. (Related: David Blackmon: Beyond gas stove ban Democrats roar with even bigger goals)
Unfortunately for US consumers, and this is the big part of the story, the process makes it inevitable that the federal government will set the price of carbon dioxide in the US.
It only means one thing. It is a nationwide tax on carbon dioxide. Of course, this is really a tax on all forms of energy. Such taxes would be incredibly regressive, damaging the economy and making everything grown, manufactured and moved more expensive.
The sad and morbid part of this story is that Republican senators are well aware of its conclusions. In fact, they rely on it.Senator Kramer Said The Washington Post said: “We as Republicans spend a lot of time saying a firm no to those who try to impose a carbon tax . Anything can be achieved easily.”
In short, this is a gentle way of conveying the bad news of a nationwide energy tax to insensitive voters who oppose the idea.
Senator Kramer wasn’t done. he told E&E News. or: “Once you take the first step, it’s easy to take the second. You can create a little bit of momentum…and people are like, ‘Oh my God, this is a carbon tax.’ It makes you think in context.”
Here’s the problem: Kramer knows that his proposal actually leads directly to a carbon/energy tax. He expects voters to be either too stupid or too distracted to notice it.
Senator Markowski was similarly talkative with E&E News. [of] — I think it will be important to know a little more about the impact of all these, whether it’s carbon pricing or border adjustments. “
Senator, the implications are: Alaskans will pay more for energy and anything that is made or moved with energy. (Related: Mike McKenna: How to lose friends and alienate allies)
All this recently became a national investigation Specifically, voters were found to be by a wide margin (44 percentage points) opposed to the federal government imposing a tax on carbon dioxide emissions collected by gas pumps and heating and utility bills.
The next time you wonder why Republicans are having such a hard time making deals with the American people, or why you should support them more generally, remember these four senators and this bill, Consider whether you are in favor of making energy more expensive. .
Then reach out to members of Congress and presidential candidates and tell them how you feel about this truly subversive and nonsensical idea.
