Mike Pence Says He Has ‘No Plans To Testify’ In Trump Case

“If the special counsel called you, would you be willing to testify at the president’s trial?” asked CNN host Dana Bash.

“Well, as President of the Senate, I was subpoenaed to testify before a grand jury after being briefed by the court on constitutional protections,” Pence replied.

“I have no plans to testify and we will always abide by the law. But, look, I don’t know what will happen with this indictment, the president has the right to a presumption of innocence, and in court You have the right to defend yourself, but there are really serious issues lurking in this: First Amendment, Freedom of Speech, etc. I’m sure he and his lawyers will sue over all of this. We are,” Pence continued.

“I want the American people to know that President Trump was wrong then and is wrong now. By the grace of the United States, I have fulfilled my obligations under the U.S. Constitution,” he concluded.

Trump’s attorney John Lauro suggested to CBS News Sunday that Pence’s testimony would be “our best witness” in Trump’s defense.

The former president was indicted Tuesday by the Department of Justice (DOJ) on charges of contesting the 2020 election results and involvement in the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riot. President Trump pleaded not guilty on Thursday, calling this a “persecution” of himself.
