Iran launched hundreds of unmanned suicide drones and missiles at Israel on Saturday in retaliation for the killing of a top Iranian general in an attack on a facility in Damascus, Syria. Iran has supported Hamas in its war with Israel, and intelligence reports say the general helped plan the October 7 attack on Israel.
U.S. Navy ships approached Israel to help intercept the attacking missiles and drones, and the U.S. helped Israel intercept and destroy most of the attacking devices.
On Sunday, Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Saxon), chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, said the U.S. should support Israel.
“This weekend, American soldiers stood shoulder to shoulder with Israelis helping to protect our partners from Iranian aggression,” Rogers said in a statement. “Their actions prevented innocent bloodshed and we thank them for their leadership. Make no mistake: President Biden's strategy of appeasing Iran has failed. Iran and its terrorist minions have turned the Middle East into a flashpoint. Iran's decision to launch hundreds of drones and missiles at Israel requires appropriate consequences and international condemnation. President Biden must make it clear that the United States stands unequivocally with Israel.”

Biden now faces the serious possibility of all-out war in the Middle East, and he is trying to persuade Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Do not retaliate against attacksBiden reportedly told Netanyahu that the United States would not take part in any offensive operations against Iran. Biden, who was already facing criticism even from within his own party following last year's major attack on Israel, said he would not back down from the White House.
“We don't want an escalation. We don't want a bigger war in the region,” White House national security spokesman John Kirby said Sunday on NBC's “Meet the Press.”
