st. PAUL (WJON News) — Students across the state are being encouraged to exercise on a regular schedule and enjoy some fresh air this week.
May is National Bike Month and Minnesota Governor Tim Waltz proclaimed Wednesday a day to walk and bike to school.
Hosted by MnDOT and Minnesota Safe Routes to School, the annual spring event aims to promote bicycle and pedestrian safety. Each year, children can learn about the value of physical activity and the environmental impact of walking and cycling, including reducing air pollution and traffic congestion.
Students in grades K-8 also have a chance to design a Bike to School Day poster and win a bike prize pack and a bike rack for the school. The poster contest submission deadline is Friday.
Over 130 schools across the state have signed up to host a Walk and Bike to School Day event.
