BULLHEAD CITY — Mojave County District 2 supervisor Hildy Angius has confirmed plans to seek a Republican nomination for one of the 30 seats in two districts of the Arizona House of Representatives in 2024.
Angius has previously said she does not intend to seek re-election as a representative of Bullhead City’s five-member oversight board, leading to speculation that she may run for state legislature next year. That speculation was confirmed last week.
She said her more than a decade of experience as a county supervisor, working with various levels of government, has prepared her to serve in the Arizona legislature.
“I’ve seen first-hand how higher governments, in the form of underfunded orders and edicts, impose orders on local governments to the detriment of rural counties,” Angius said. Angius is the only District 2 representative on the County Board of Governors, which was expanded from three to five members in 2012, when the county’s population exceeded 200,000 for the first time. He was first elected in 2012 and re-elected in 2016 and 2020.
She called for the seat to be vacated by House Majority Leader Leo Biacicucci of R-Lake Havasu City, in exchange for the nomination of the Arizona 30th Senate seat currently held by another Havas Republican Senate Majority Leader. increase. Sonny Borelli. Borelli is ineligible to run for re-election in the Senate due to state-imposed term limits.
Angius said he has the electoral endorsement of Biasiucci, 30th District Rep. John Gillette (R-Kingman) and Borelli.
Angius said, “I am truly blessed and humbled to have the support of great leaders who have done such a wonderful job of fighting for our conservative values.” We are looking for another reliable and experienced team member like Senator Borelli, and I will be on that team.”
Angius said he is familiar with Mojave County in general and Bullhead City in particular, but plans to meet with voters throughout the legislative district as the campaign progresses.
“Throughout the next year, I will visit all 30 legislative districts to learn what citizens expect from government during this difficult time,” she said.
Recreated before the 2022 election cycle following the 2020 Census, the 30th Legislative District includes all of La Paz County and a small portion of northwest Maricopa County, as well as most of Mojave County (northeast). (all except corners).
