Greg Belfort, a Yucca resident, accused Board President Hildy Angius of hurting her words during a Jan. 16 Board of Supervisors meeting when she declared him her mortal enemy. has filed a lawsuit with Mohave County, demanding that Greg Belfort resign.
Mr. Angius pointed out that he is a “Jew” when he slammed Mr. Belfort for condemning the pro-Israel resolution adopted by the council.
The imposingly built Befort claims that the comments made by the diminutive Angius “intimidated and intimidated me.”
“As a former police officer, I have put my life in danger many times,” the complaint said. “I always take threats from political and religious zealots seriously.”
Belfort said he was traumatized by witnessing what his wife claimed was an assault by a mortal enemy.
The claims are a precursor to possible litigation, and Belfort said he would settle the case in court if $50,000 in damages were paid and Angius resigned and publicly apologized.
Angius refused to accede to Befort's request. However, she released her statement.
“I have contacted Mr. Belfort privately and publicly and not only apologized, but also proposed that a meeting be held to discuss our differences on this issue. He rejected me. I chose it,” Angius said. “For the record, I support the right of Israel and all other nations to protect themselves from terrorism.”
Angius previously posted a lengthy apology on Facebook. But Befort disputed its sincerity, citing another post in which he claimed Angius said he would not apologize or retract his statement.
The Kingman Police Department confirmed that Befort filed a disorderly conduct complaint against Angius on Jan. 23. Befort said he also filed a civil rights complaint with the Arizona Attorney General's Office.
Angius and at least two other county supervisors received postcards at their home addresses this week that branded her anti-Semitic. Card claimed that the Holocaust was fake news and implied that Jews were responsible for 9/11.
His complaint suggests that Mr. Befort is the victim of retaliation for voicing his views long before the resolution erupted.
“I am critical of Mohave County's response to the coronavirus pandemic and have filed a complaint with the U.S. Attorney's Office.” “Currently, I am receiving threatening threats in public. “The chilling effect on other voters' right to free speech is alarming.”
