Here’s how the final day of X Games California 2023 played out with Team Monster Energy.

Monster Energy Women’s Skateboard Park: Alisa Truw Swept, Grace Merhofer Bronze

The Monster Energy team’s medal run started at the Monster Energy Women’s Skateboard Park event. After narrowing down the slots from his 12 riders to his six finalists, the world’s best skaters showcased their versatile skills on Ventura’s concrete course.

Who are the riders to watch out for? From Palm Beach, Australia, her 13-year-old Alisa Truw is undoubtedly the newly elected Monster Army athlete. After winning her gold medal at the Women’s Skateboard Vert last night, the young trick innovator entered the park competition with a wealth of tricks and confidence.

After already securing victory on the first run, True took a victory lap on his third and final attempt to improve his score with a textbook run. Judo air on extension, backside crossbone air on kicker, gap on backside method, bart extension on varialmac twist, transfer to frontside lip slide on deep end, mack twist, frontside smith grind, air to fakie on extension, and melon air on kicker, followed by True’s score of 91.00 and the lead. victory.

“I’m so happy I made the run, and I’m even happier to win the gold!” True said after winning the women’s skate park gold in Ventura.

True currently owns two X Games Golds, both of which he won at Ventura this weekend.

The Australians were joined by 20-year-old Monster Army rider Grace Merhofer, who qualified and finished on the podium. Combining powerful bowl moves with raw street tricks, Mahhofer impressed the crowd (and judges) with a top-three finish.

Mahhofer scored a career-best run with a long frontside Smithgrind from the bowl corner, a Naskan on the vert extension, and a robust frontside Smithgrind on the kicker rail for a high drop to score 81.66 and win the bronze medal. Merhofer now owns one X Games medal.

Best Trick in BMX Park: Kevin Peraza wins gold for his stunning trick, Sandoval wins bronze

The energy was extraordinary in Sunday’s BMX Park Best Trick final. As his eight qualified riders attacked his course in Ventura’s sprawling park, the limits of what a BMX bike could do stretched before the eyes of an enthusiastic crowd.

The rider who spearheaded the progress was none other than 28-year-old Kevin Peraza from Tucson, Arizona. After he already has two of his X Games medals in Ventura this weekend, Peraza has found the perfect combination of location and location to grab the win. From the deck he emerged seven feet up on a narrow pergola his bridge and Peraza moved into the lower bowl with his 360 whip his drop and wowed the crowd to win the gold medal.

“I don’t know what to say, but BMX is just awesome! It’s so special. Everyone here supports each other. The X Games just came back to California and the venue and park fit my style and I had so much fun from day one,” said Peraza, who won the gold medal in BMX Park Best Trick. Peraza also dedicated her victory to the memory of teammate Pat Casey. “This is his! He would do it, so I’m here to do it for him!”

Peraza currently holds eight X Games medals (5 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze). He made his mark in this X Games history as the first BMX rider to win medals in the BMX Park, BMX Street and BMX Dirt disciplines. Welcome to the new MVP of BMX!

Daniel Sandoval, 29, from Corona, Calif., who also finished on the podium in the Best Tricks session at the heavyweight division, hit the limit. A 360-degree double whip sent a downwhip past the center kicker and Sandoval won the bronze medal.

Sandoval currently holds seven X Games medals (2 gold, 1 silver and 4 bronze).

Men’s Skateboard Street: Kelvin Hoefler Takes Silver in Epic Final

That insane level of progress was fully demonstrated in the Men’s Skateboarding Street Finals. With eight of the circuit’s top riders chasing the perfect build-up on the track, the hurdles to getting on the podium are among the highest in X Games history.

Kelvin Hoefler, 30, from São Paulo, Brazil, is not used to winning in the clutch, but in his third and final attempt at the competition, he put all the pieces together for a perfect run. Starting with a kickflip backside lipslide on the big rail, the Olympic silver medalist landed a backside Smith grind to land a volcano ledge, followed by a 360 flip to Eurogap, a cavalier real tailslide to a fakie on the hub ledge, a kickflip to a volcano ledge turn, a nollie frontsideboardslide to a rail, and a kickflip backside tailslide to a high rail fakie to score 90.66 to win the silver medal.

“Here it is, it’s a dream come true. The hard work pays off! Every trick was special. This course is so weird. It looks so good, but every obstacle is so hard to slide, every trick I did was completely insane to me,” said Hoefler of winning the silver medal at Men’s Skateboard Street. “It was great to see so many people come!”

Thanks to Sunday’s silver medal, Hoeffler now owns seven X Games medals (2 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze).

Pacifico Men’s Skateboard Vert Best Trick: Gen Shibata wins silver, Edouard Damstoy wins bronze

At the weekend’s final medal event, a giant halfpipe inside the Ventura County Fairgrounds & Events Center provided the backdrop for the Skateboard Vert Best Tricks session. As a grand finale, the competition featured 10 elite halfpipe riders, including skateboarding icon Tony Hawk.

During the 36-minute jam session, each rider received five attempts to land the most progressive tricks on ramps and specially added surfboard deck obstacles. And with an unprecedented trick nailed from the start, veteran X Games commentator Brandon Graham concluded, “This is his Vert Best Trick contest, the best I’ve ever seen!”

When the topic settled for a contest featuring some innovative tricks, 27-year-old Motoshibata from Osaka, Japan, landed a complex alley-oop kickflip McTwist to win silver…and the crowd went wild.

“I’m kind of at a loss for words. I’m really happy to land the kickflip alley-oop mucktwist in today’s contest. I was a little nervous because it was my third run, but I’m in high spirits. We all won today,” Shibata said Sunday after winning the X Games silver medal. “I am so honored to be part of X Games today. It means a lot to me that X Games is back in California. Big thanks to the Monster Energy family and see you next year!”

Shibata currently owns seven X Games medals (1 gold, 5 silver and 1 bronze). The Japanese style icon also earned a bronze medal in the men’s skateboarding veil at X Games California 2023.

End of story? Not so soon! In an intense session that expanded his repertoire of vertical skateboarding tricks, his 26-year-old monster energy rider Edouard Damestois from Bordeaux, France also performed the Never Bien Dang (NBD) aerial. On the final attempt of the contest, Damestoy landed his aerial on the frontside Rodeo 720 to the disbelief of the crowd as well as the rest of the field.

“The trick went exactly as planned and I am very happy that I did it. I am really happy to be part of the Monster Energy family and I am very happy that they believe in me. Monster is sick so I am looking forward to a long career and a lot of things ahead,” Damestoy said as he won the bronze medal in the Vert Best Trick. “It was my first time in Ventura and I loved it. The crowd was really hot and I had a great time here and I hope he comes back to the X Games next year!”

Just like that, Damestoy made skateboarding history by winning his second medal in the competition. Damestoy now owns four X Games medals (three gold, one bronze).

And it’s a wrap! Congratulations to Monster Energy’s athletes for earning his 23 medals at the world’s greatest showcase of action sports. And a special thank you to the entire team at X Games for making action sports history again and bringing live stadium crowds back to X Games California 2023.
