Most Americans Think Trump Is Keeping His Promises, According to Harry Enten

Trump’s Promises and Approval Ratings

On Tuesday, CNN senior data reporter Harry Enten revealed that a substantial number of Americans think President Donald Trump is keeping his campaign promises.

According to Enten, 52% of voters feel Trump is meeting what he pledged during the 2024 campaign, contributing to a 43% approval rating. Many voters are counting on him to secure borders, combat inflation, and address crime.

“Donald Trump is essentially the figure voters expected him to be,” Enten remarked. “We need to ask ourselves if he’s delivering on his promises. It seems that, for the majority, he is.” He noted that Trump’s approval ratings have remained consistent, mirroring where they stood last year.

Moreover, Trump’s approval was at 44% in October 2024, indicating he could pose challenges for Democrats in the upcoming midterms in 2026. A New York Times opinion poll shows Democrats currently leading Republicans by two points, and a Yahoo/YouGov poll suggests a four-point lead for Democrats.

“Honestly, the American public’s sentiments are quite stable,” Enten said. “They seem to be at the same level as they were a year ago. Democrats might gain control where the votes are currently focused, but the overall picture looks similar to last year. It didn’t help Democrats then—Republicans retained control of the House.”

Trump’s hardline stance on immigration and economic policies have been beneficial for him in all seven swing states, according to recent trends. His strict border policies correlate with the lowest levels of border crossings recorded since July, reaching figures not seen since 1970.

As of September, Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) has apprehended over 300,000 illegal immigrants since Trump’s return to office on January 20.

Inflation also showed a decline in May after reaching a 40-year high under the previous administration. In addition, crime rates have notably decreased following Trump’s federal intervention in Washington, D.C., with the National Guard expected to be deployed to Memphis and Chicago.
