Mothers testify they had no idea accused murderer Christopher Clements had photos of their young daughters

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – The second murder trial against convicted child murderer Christopher Clements continued on Wednesday, Feb. 22, with more expert witnesses taking the stand.

For more information on Wednesday’s testimony, scroll down to the section labeled “Trial Day 6: More Witnesses.”

Background

Clements faces kidnapping and murder charges in connection with the disappearance and death of Isabel Celis in Tucson in 2012.

The case quickly gained national attention as Isabelle went missing from her bedroom more than a decade ago and communities in southern Arizona searched for her.

Despite some leads, the incident remained cool until 2017. That’s when Clements’ fiancé called the FBI, and she told him that Clements knew where Isabel was buried.

A month later, Clements led investigators to search for Isabel’s body in a desert area near the West Avra Valley and North Trico roads in rural Pima County.

Clements, who is pleading not guilty to the charges, said he had nothing to do with Isabel’s death.

A year later, Clements was indicted in connection with the deaths of Isabel and Maribel Gonzalez. Maribel’s body was found in the same area as Isabel’s.

last year, Clements is Convicted of Kidnapping and Murder of Maribel Gonzalez and was sentenced to life imprisonment. On June 3, 2014, at the age of 13, Maribel went missing while walking to a friend’s house. A few days later, her body was found in a desert area near the road between Toriko and Avra Valley.

Clements has already served 35 years in prison for the Maricopa County robbery.

Trial Day 6: More Witnesses

Earlier in the day, the jury was exonerated, but the judge didn’t say why.

The state opened the day by calling Adriana Nunez, who lived in the Palo Verde and Drexel neighborhoods in 2013.

The state showed a photo of Nunez’s 5-year-old daughter, which was allegedly found on Clements’ electronic device.

Nunez said he didn’t take the picture and didn’t know why Clements took it.

Nunez told Clements’ attorney, Eric Kessler, that he had nothing to do with the Sellis family.

Marina Baez was then questioned about a photo of her infant daughter allegedly found on Clements’ device.

Baez said her daughter was about five or six years old when the photo was taken and was taken in her sister’s apartment.

Baez said she did not know Clements and had no connection with the Celis family.

The state then called FBI Special Agent Patrick Cullen, a digital forensics examiner, to the stand.

He said he found some internet searches about Isabel by looking at Clements’ electronics. He also said he found some images of scantily-clad girls on one of Clements’ cell phones.

Of the 200 photos, 127 were of underage girls.

The state later called the Tucson Police Department. Ana Eglora on the stand.

After Isabel went missing, Eglora interrogated Clements.

Clements said he was unable to tell police what happened the day Isabel went missing.

He claimed to have dined with friends that night and then bowled near Ina Road and Interstate 10.

He claimed that on his way home, a friend named Corina Rivera called him in his car.

He said he picked Rivera up from her apartment complex near Interstate 19 and West Arjo Way.

Clements claimed to have arrived at Rivera’s home around 2:00 or 3:00 a.m. and finally returned home around 5:00 a.m.
