MSNBC Yanks ‘Morning Joe’ Show For First Day Of RNC Following Trump Shooting

MSNBC canceled its usual morning programming Monday morning for the first day of the Republican National Convention, less than 48 hours after the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.

MSNBC's Ana Cabrera will host the 6 a.m. ET show, while NBC News Now's Joe Fryer and Savannah Sellers will host the 7 a.m. show instead of the network's usual morning “Morning Joe” timeslot as the Republican National Convention prepares to get underway in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

The network opted to continue covering breaking news instead of co-hosts Joe Scarborough, a former Republican congressman from Florida, his wife Mika Brzezinski, Willie Geist and Jonathan Lemire. report. “Given the severity and complexity of this incident, NBC News, NBC News NOW and MSNBC have continued to air breaking news coverage since Saturday night,” a spokesperson for NBCUniversal News Group said in a statement provided to CNN. “As we continue to cover this incident this week, each network will alternate between simulcasting NBC News, NBC News NOW and 'MSNBC Report,' providing a single news feed covering this evolving situation.”

Trump was shot in the right ear during the attack at a rally in Butler County, Pennsylvania, that killed former volunteer fire chief Corey Comperatore and injured two other rally attendees. CNN, citing anonymous sources, reported that the network was concerned that one of its “Morning Joe” guests might make inappropriate comments about the attack.

Scarborough, described as one of President Joe Biden's favorite TV hosts, has been a vocal critic of former President Trump, calling him “the most racist president of our lifetime” and claiming that “Trump is cognitively impaired” and that Trump was “scared to death” of taking on former Republican New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.

MSNBC and Scarborough did not immediately respond to requests for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.
