NE Yuma County hit twice hard by hail – Yuma Pioneer

Large areas of northeastern Yuma County were devastated by two major hail storms in about ten days.
The first storm hit on the evening of Wednesday, June 28, hours before a violent storm hit Yuma in the early hours of June 29.

The hail damage north of Eckley and north of Lae was extensive. Some decided to replant their crops to get something in the growing season.
However, another severe hail storm hit the region last Saturday, July 8 afternoon.

“At least 100 percent, you know what you have,” Oestmann says.
Oestmann has been driving through the affected area since last Saturday afternoon. He said nearly everything, from the Wage Volunteer Fire Station on Yuma County Route 57 between Prefectural Routes T and U to the Wauneta Volunteer Fire Station on Route 50 along Route 385, appears to have been completely lost. said. bring hail.
The CoAgMet weather station at Lenz Family Farm, north of Lae, showed 4.18 inches of rainfall since June 27, including 1.75 inches during the last four days of June. , which includes 2.43 inches so far in July (including 1.31 inches from last Saturday’s storm). More rain came this Monday afternoon, with 0.64 inches of rain.
“It just seems like a pattern this year,” Oestmann said.
And it was mostly a welcome pattern until the hail began to fall in recent weeks.
