The Trump administration is reportedly moving forward with the first wave of layoffs at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), primarily focusing on workers in the Environmental Justice Program.
Assistant Administrator Travis Voyles wrote in an internal memo Monday that the EPA will begin cutting back on July 31st the remaining environmental justice staff. Politico’s E&E News and Bloomberg Method Those who reviewed a copy of the notification.
“This action is necessary to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the programme, tailoring the workforce to the agency’s current and future needs,” Voyles reportedly wrote in a memo. Voyles’ notification reportedly did not specify how many employees would be cut.
“With this action, the EPA is providing organizational improvements to the HR structure that directly benefits the American people and better advances the central mission of institutions that protect human health and the environment,” continued Voyles.
The EPA and Voyles offices did not respond to requests for comment from the DCNF or copies of notifications reviewed by Politico and Bloomberg Law.
