Phoenix – After years of construction of the updated facility, Maricopa County Animal Care and Control will open the doors to the new East Valley Shelter next week.
The 84,000-square-foot shelter at Mesa Baseline and McQueen Road will be open to the public on May 2nd.
“East Valley residents have been demanding renewed facilities for years, but soon they will be able to enjoy many of the benefits of this modern, spacious campus,” said 2nd District Vice President Thomas Galvin. press release.
“This new shelter will boost employee morale, improve recruitment and retention of staff and volunteers, and make your dog feel more comfortable during MCACC care.”
Here’s what you know about Mesa’s new animal shelter
The facility will replace the old shelter at Rio Salado Parkway and the Loop 101 Price Expressway, which closed on April 22nd.
The shelter is open Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 6pm Monday and from Fridays to 5pm.
It features 346 Kennels, 21 yards, a state-of-the-art veterinary clinic, and an independent clinic separation area to prevent spreading of illness.
There is also a small group of kennels with indoor and outdoor access and layouts that help to relax your dog.
“In 2023, MCACC has served as more than 16,000 pets and in 2024 we are on track to provide just as many, if not even more, services,” MCACC director Debbie McKnight said in the release.
“This new facility will make a dramatic difference in the quality of care our staff and volunteers can provide.”
