New Report Highlights Challenges for Renters in Yuma County

Arizona State University Morrison Institute for Public Policy has released a series of reports on housing insecurity that focus on six Arizona counties.

Through interviews and focus groups, researchers sought to find out how people living in Yuma County experience the rental and housing markets.

Timely question. Since 2020, Yuma County has seen more rent and housing costs than in the last five years combined.

Wages have risen, but everything from food and gas to childcare and utilities has caused inflation, and paying rent and mortgages has become a challenge for people.

42% of Yuma County renters and nearly 25% of homeowners suffer from this.

That struggle is part of the definition of housing insecurity.
